What is your ‘C’ to getting mentally fit?

For the practical activity relating to ‘C’, the team at Get Mentally Fit are going to identify a C-harity, that aligns with our values, who we can effectively support as we grow. Like many other passionate organisations and individuals, we have identified that we are in the fortunate position to offer our skills and financial support in this way.

The reciprocal benefits of developing positive community relationships are well documented. Considering Seligman’s PERMA model, relating to authentic happiness, engaged support of a charity fulfills the 5 elements identified for realising a life of fulfillment, happiness, and meaning.

This fortnight, you can join us aligning with a C-harity or break out and be C-reative.

How about lighting some C-andles up and enjoying a tech-free, romantic evening catching up with your loved ones. C-ook a special dinner for those you love, bake some C-ookies or C-upcakes. Use this as an excuse to C-lown around with someone, sculpt some C-lay, build sand C-astles, stare at the C-louds, C-olour in, or just simply C-atch up with someone you have been meaning to for a while.

What is the focus of this fortnight’s article?

Our focus within this article, for the ‘C’ fortnight, is to introduce the A-Z group to the concept of C-haracter Strengths. By the end of this fortnight, we are aiming to encourage as many people as possible to discover their TOP 5-character strengths. Armed with this information, members of the A-Z group can start to more deeply explore how to understand and exploit their strengths throughout their lives so they can enjoy greater, more conscious, life satisfaction.

We feel it is essential that A-Z group members understand the vocabulary and concepts relating to the VIA Character Strengths. This knowledge will provide a better understand of how to effectively select your fortnightly mental fitness activity so that you get energy from them.

How do you reliably identify your TOP 5 Character Strengths?

The VIA Character Strengths Survey is the only FREE, scientific survey of character strengths in the world. Take this simple, 15 minute character test and discover your greatest strengths. Research shows that knowing and using your character strengths can help you: increase happiness and well-being; find meaning and purpose; boost relationships; manage stress and health and accomplish goals.

*Please feel free to share your TOP 5 Character Strengths on the A-Z Facebook page. This will allow us to get to know you a little more.

Now it’s your turn to participate – what activity can you try for ‘C’?

As we have previously mentioned, we are an international group of participants. Therefore, we are very mindful of the diverse set of social restrictions that we all have. Depending on your social landscape we encourage everyone to creatively pick an activity for ‘C’ that you can do, and that aligns to 1 or more of your TOP 5 Character Strengths.

*Feel free to undertake your chosen activity on your own, with family members, different friends, colleagues, and professional networks, or even each other.

Share your activity on the A-Z to Getting Mentally Fit Facebook group. Take time to make connections between your specific mental fitness activity ‘C’ and the nature of your identified personal strengths.

Want to learn more?

We have deliberately divided the further learning sections, each fortnight, into three tiers of research (difficulty).

  1. Lounging on the beach or heading out for a casual snorkel – light research.
  2. Air-tank assisted buddy dive – more depth in the research and moderately challenging.
  3. Deep dive into the splendorous depths – more rigorous academic research and an essential piece to mental fitness.
